ASK Magazine for children wants you!!!

They are on the lookout for ...wait on it.....NARRATIVE NONFICTION.

Here is the advertisement.

"Got Narrative Nonfiction?

I'm often asked if there's anything in particular I'm looking for—usually the answer is just "good stories." But I am looking for more narrative nonfiction, telling true stories like fiction—this approach has great appeal for younger readers, and I'd like to get more of it in Ask. It could be the unfolding of a moment in science history, or a Flatland-type math adventure, or a classmate of Newton telling what it was like to go to school with him, or an apprentice blacksmith taking us on a tour around a Viking blacksmith shop. So if you've got an idea for a neat narrative nonfiction piece, or want to give it a try, pitch it! I'd love to see new approaches to old (or new) subjects."

What is A Nonfiction Connoisseur?

A Nonfiction Connoisseur is a person who loves reading nonfiction books. It is that person who devour those books like fine wines, cheeses, and Yes, I termed the name. I coined the phrase. And yes, I am indeed talking about me - Jackie Wellington.

I love reading, especially nonfiction picture books. That is why it is not surprising that I chose to write books in this genre and hope that I can bring what the professionals - Audrey Vernick, Barb Rosenstock, Don Tate, Jacqueline Woodson, Tanya Lee Stone, Barbara Kerley, Emily Arnold McCully, Katherine Applegate, Dianna Aston, et. al - are bringing to the table.

The days of "fact dumping" accompanied by black and white photos are gone. (I hope.) The new storytelling and weaving of facts mixed with setting, plots, and arcs are becoming more and more popular, relevant, and entertaining. And I am the one stalking publisher's weekly to see what is being released and how soon I can get my hands on them.

It is a new day in nonfiction! It is a new day in publishing! And it is a new day for the talented authors who found a way to bridge the gap between fiction and nonfiction. And I the nonfiction connoisseur found these new books - DIVINE!!!
